On the 10th and 11th of June approximately 40 experts from a range of backgrounds convened at the Czech Ministry of Agriculture in Prague for the Strategic Research Agenda Workshop (STRAW) to discuss the research needed to enable EMIDA partners to identify, prevent, control and mitigate emerging and infectious animal disease threats to Europe in the next 10 to 15 years. Results of the recently completed Delphi Study and Review of Foresight Studies, both of which were outputs of Workpackage 4, formed the basis for STRAW discussions which will support the development of a Strategic Research Agenda to be delivered in September 2011.
The first day of the workshop involved four breakout groups meeting simultaneously to identify and prioritise key driving forces and future threats after which participants were treated to a dinner cruise on Vltava River to take in the sights. On the second day participants were again split into four groups but with each group representing a European bio-geographical zone (Atlantic, Nordic/Baltic, Continental, Mediterranean). Building on the driving forces and threats listed the day before, the groups were able to identify and prioritise research topics at both pan-European and regional levels. The STRAW was a great success enjoyed by all and the results will be published on the EMIDA website later this year. |

The fifth meeting of the EMIDA ERA-NET was held in Helsinki on 28 April, 2010 and was hosted by the Finnish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Items on the agenda included the report on the mapping of research disciplines, evaluation of the first common call and topics for a possible second, the preliminary results of the Delphi Study and preparations for the upcoming Strategic Research Agenda Workshop (STRAW).

The fourth EMIDA project meeting was held in Paris on the 6th of October, 2009. Objectives of the meeting were to inform Partners of their responsibilities regarding the first project report, to agree the procedures around the evaluation and selection of proposals in the Pilot Call, to discuss and agree on a possible second research call and to discuss the European Commission’s call for a Global-NET.

The third EMIDA project meeting was held in Prague on the 17th and 18th of March, 2009. Top of the agenda was the selection of topics for the upcoming common call and sitting in were the Strategy Board and Advisory Group to offer their advice.
